About the Highlawn neighborhood
Founded in 1870
The town of Huntington was founded at the location where the B & O Railroad reached the Ohio River. Over time it grew as an industrial city, as well as the location of Marshall University, two regional hospitals, and the Tri-State Airport.
Growing in 2021
The Highlawn neighborhood is home to St. Mary’s Medical Center. Marshall University is only blocks away. The neighborhood remains one of the most walkable in Huntington, with St. Mary’s, Marshall, restaurants, and a grocery store within walking distance. A newly built Highlawn Elementary school opened in Fall 2021.
